Exhaust FAQs
Why should I get an aftermarket exhaust?
The biggest reason people choose an aftermarket exhaust is to improve the vehicles tone. But they also provide better airflow, which allows the engine to breath more freely, and can increase power.
What are all the different systems?
Full/Header/Turbo-back - A full exhaust system which starts at the headers on the engine block or the turbo, and replaces the entire exhaust system. This setup has the best power gain possibilities.
Cat/DPF-back - These two systems are as they sound, they replace the exhaust system from the factory DPF or catalytic converter back. They provide some power improvements, but mostly improve the tone of the vehicle.
Axle-back - This changes only the very end of the exhaust behind the rear axle. This provides an affordable improvement to the sound of your vehicle.
Extractors/Headers - These systems replace the engine mounted pipes of your exhaust system and improve airflow without altering the volume of the car.
Will an aftermarket exhaust improve fuel economy?
It can improve the fuel economy in some cases, but this is dependent on your driving style, the vehicle and if it has been tuned.
Do I need a tune after installing an aftermarket exhaust?
This depends on what your goal is with the exhaust.
If you just want to improve the tone of the vehicle then a tune isn't necessary. But if you are wanting to improve performance then a tune will be beneficial.
Will an aftermarket exhaust void my warranty?
No it does not automatically void your vehicle warranty. Under Australian Consumer Law, only faults directly caused by the exhaust modification can be excluded from warranty coverage.
Is it illegal to remove a DPF or catalytic converter?
Yes, removing or modifying a DPF or catalytic converter (cat) is illegal for on road vehicles. DPF deletes and cat removal are only for off road and motorsport use.
